"A party that loses once can put it down to bad luck or the political cycle. A party that loses twice can blame a bad candidate. (That’s you, Nana Addo) A party that loses three times can hardly avoid some navel inspection". The NPP seem to be stuck in a quagmire it has created with sharp division along the traditional fault lines. It does seem more like controlling the party is more important than winning the general election.
While the main opponent of the NPP, the ruling NDC have shifted into second gear in their preparation towards the November pools, the NPP has remained in neutral and have burnt all its fuel fighting for control over the party.
With over 500 ardent members indefinitely suspended including its substantive Chairman and General Secretary, it is now time for deep introspection and drastic changes in the way things are being done in the NPP. What has happened in the party is that Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo is the only elder in the party at the moment, what ever he says or does is right and anyone who have a different view is either on suspension or is keeping quiet to avoid being jettisoned.
Nana Addo have been trumpeted as some one who is a true democrat and abhors corruption. But is that really true? With what is happening in the party, it is almost impossible to convince a nursery child that Nana Addo is a democrat, in fact very few dictators can rival his performance since he assumed the leadership of the NPP in 2014. He has displayed the highest level of intolerance by presiding over the jettisoning of anyone who have a contrary opinion from the party.
In 2007 when Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo resigned as the Minister of foreign Affairs to contest the position standard bearer of the NPP, he went away with two Official vehicle belonging to the ministry, He only returned them after he lost the election in 2008, this is the man we are now being told is not corrupt and he is also incorruptible. As one commentator puts it, who knows what Nana will take home if we entrust the national kitty into his hands.
Among the candidates contesting for the presidency in 2016, Nana is the only candidate who is laden with direct act of corruption, The NPP is marketing snake oil, the labeling is bad and they are late.
